Artist's Description
Bull Dike Bivi Sea of Dreams was captured as the sun was just coming onto the wall at first light. I had climbed, the previous day, half of the Nine-to-Five pitch, which was very overhanging. When I lowered out I was about 40' from our bivouac and saw it was a total photo op in spite of the poor protection pieces that I was hanging from my previous day's highpoint. Jim Bridwell, (R.I.P.) complied with both lowering out the camera and posing for the photo while Dale Bard refused to have any part of it and continued packing gear. I love Dale but he can be a pain in the ass that way.
Bridwell had set up the belay at the end of the Bull Dike pitch on seventeen manky pitons (wedges driven into cracks for anchors) in a series of expanding flakes that creaked when loads were distributed. Two of them popped out during the night when we were shifting about in our porta-ledges.
