Description
"Prickly Elegance" depicts magenta hedgehog blossoms erupting from their palace of spines. Hedgehog cacti (Echinocereus engelmannii) are well-adapted to survive in harsh desert environments, with thick stems that store water to withstand extended periods of drought. These cacti have a relatively long lifespan, with some species living for several decades or even centuries in the wild. The fruits of certain hedgehog cactus species are edible and have been traditionally consumed by Native American tribes as a food source. However, caution is advised as some species may cause digestive discomfort if consumed in large quantities.
