Rapn in the Hood, El Capitan, Yosemite, Sea of Dreams 1st Ascent, In the world of big wall climbing photography the restriction of being pinned to a location like a bug in a collector's board gives limited choices for unique compositions. It boils down to; bringing what you got, using what you got and doing your best with what you've got. When we were putting up Sea of Dreams on Yosemite's El Capitan I found myself on a rest day while Dale and Jim were fixing the next pitches. I had brought an variety of lenses so I had some telephoto options but the overcast lighting was just not to my liking. The location also just didn't work for any good photos but at the end of the day as they were rappelling back to our bivouac, I cast out of my mind getting any shadow nor highlight detail and captured this image. It ended up being used for many publications as a silhouette and I actually replicated it in lithographic film to give it further starkness (this was ions before photoshop). I liked it so much that I even used it for the side panel to my personal stationary for a while. Sometimes God gives you impossible situations and like Moses, He asks you to bring what you got, use what you got and do your best with what you've got.
